Epilepsy & Behavior Reports
Several retrospective studies and anecdotal reports, primarily in pediatric populations, suggest vitamin B6 supplementation may be helpful in reducing levetiracetam-associated irritability. Although data in adult patients is limited, and no data is available for Veterans.
Methods Retrospective chart reviews were completed for patients who had an active prescription for levetiracetam from the William S. Middleton Memorial Veterans Hospital from January 1, 2015 to June 1, 2020. Patients were excluded if not using vitamin B6 supplementation or if deceased at end of data collection. Baseline characteristics were compared, including age, sex, comorbidities, and concomitant medications.
For patients with data available, 9 (45%) showed improved irritability following supplementation with vitamin B6 and 11 (55%) showed no improvemen.
B-Vitamins
If you’re taking Keppra and B-vitamin supplements together, your doctor is the last word regarding when and how much you need, although consistency is a critical factor. B-Vitamins

Keppra
Keppra is the brand name of the anti-epileptic drug levetiracetam often prescribed in adult patients when other therapies haven’t worked in controlling partial seizures, a type of seizure that can cause loss of awareness and involuntary muscle movement. Keppra is absorbed by your body rapidly, with peak concentrations occurring an hour after ingestion and steady-state levels occurring after two days of twice-daily doses.
A biotin deficiency can cause loss of appetite or depression, while a folic acid deficiency can lead to birth defects in pregnant women. The effects of Keppra can also vary from one person to another, and your nutritional profile may also differ from other patients. More serious symptoms can include depression and hallucinations.

Does Anyone Have A Citation For The Paper That Reports This?
I can’t seem to find it on pub med or medline. I began a trial of 100 mg Vitamin B6 about 2 weeks ago, and feel significantly better (mood). I’d be curious to hear others experience with treating keppra mood side effects with vitamin B6.
