The BL 8-inch howitzer Marks VI, VII and VIII (6, 7 and 8)[note 1] have been a collection of British artillery siege howitzers on cell carriages of a brand new design launched in World Battle I. They have been designed by Vickers in Britain and produced by all 4 British artillery producers, however primarily by Armstrong, and one American firm. They’d restricted service within the British Military in World Battle II earlier than being transformed to the brand new 7.2-inch (180 mm) calibre. They have been the equivalents of the German 21 cm Morser 16 and in British service have been used equally to the BL 9.2-inch howitzer, however have been faster to fabricate, and extra cell.

Some Vickers 8-inch weapons have been current in Japanese island fortifications in the course of the Pacific Marketing campaign.[8]
Use by United States[edit]
A complete of at the very least 285 M1917 (Mark 6), 116 M1918 (Mark 7), and 61 M1918 (Mark 8+1⁄2) weapons have been acquired by the US Military, plus 16 for the US Marine Corps. 52 weapons have been bought from the British starting in January 1918; subsequent stock figures point out they have been along with these totals. In 1941 the remaining weapons have been authorised for switch to the British underneath Lend-Lease.
Use by Finland[edit]
13 of those howitzers have been misplaced within the battles of the summer season of 1944; eight of those belonged to Heavy Artillery Battery 4 and have been misplaced at Valkeasaari on 10 June, whereas the opposite 5 belonged to Heavy Artillery Battery 3, positioned northeast of Lake Ladoga. [Finnish for howitzer], 1917) and have been first issued to 3 heavy artillery battalions (1st, 2nd and third), which later have been re-organised into six heavy artillery batteries (eleventh, twelfth, thirteenth, 14th, fifteenth and sixteenth). Thirty-two “8 in Howitzer Mk 7 (Vickers Mk 6)” 8-inch howitzers have been purchased from the US in 1939 however arrived too late to see motion within the warfare.
